Why is our company called oneeightnine?
The name oneeightnine was inspired by Dana Point, the place where Temple was born and raised and a place that will always hold special meaning for us. Dana Point is recognized as California Historical Landmark No. 189, and that number felt like a beautiful way to honor the history, charm, and sense of home that inspired this business. For us, the name reflects more than a location — it represents memory, meaning, and the heart behind everything we create.

How we got here
What started as a simple search for comfort turned into something much more meaningful.
After moving to Tennessee, I found myself adjusting to a new place without the familiar comfort of friends and family nearby. Like many people do, I looked for small ways to make our new house feel like home. Candles quickly became part of that ritual—filling the space with warmth, calm, and a sense of peace. But over time, I began to notice something wasn’t quite right. I was experiencing shortness of breath that didn’t seem to go away. After a visit to the doctor and trying a few solutions, I started paying closer attention to my environment—and eventually realized that once I stopped burning certain candles, my symptoms began to improve.
That moment shifted everything. What started as a personal discovery quickly became a shared mission between my husband and me. We began researching, testing, and learning everything we could about cleaner, safer ingredients and how to create a candle that not only smells beautiful—but truly supports a healthier home.
From that journey, oneeightnine candle co. was born.
